Tosyn Bucknor- The Aftermath of her life.

November 20, 2018, started as a regular day for me (well, maybe not soo regular, cos it was a public holiday, and that meant...... no waking up at 4am to get ready for work😁😁😁😁😁😁). I ran some errands, got home, and logged on to Instagram, to see a shocker: Tosyn Bucknor dead!!!!!!!

I literally screamed!!!!!! She was so full of life, always happy (at least every time, I hear her on radio, or watch her videos),and very passionate about who/what she holds dear. Tosyn Bucknor made me start listening to Top radio (awa team Areaaaaaaa), and when she moved to Inspiration fm, needless to say, I moved with her too. I had always been a fan, because I felt like she was everything  I wished to be and more (she had sickle cell anemia, yet didn't let it stop her form living life to the fullest). She was free, warm, giving, very expressive, and she wasn't afraid to go all out and live life.

Then I read what people had to say about her, watched some videos of her, read some poems that she wrote, and it hit me!!!! Ololade, you have not been living life!!!!!! I was just existing. I have been too afraid to live, to love, to express myself, and it has cost me some friendships/relationships (story for another day). Funny thing is this: I know myself so much that, I know why............πŸ‘€πŸ‘€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ’—

See ehn, I lost a lot of people dear to me while growing up, and since then, I have had a perpetual fear of losing people who I'm close to........... so I tend to hold back most times, unless I have gotten to be very free with you (even at that, I still have the occasional fearful thought of 'O lord, what if something happens to this person). Thinking back, I realise that, it was my way of self-preservation, so I don't get hit too hard, when something happens (which was a silly way of thinking, if I say so myself). I digress. Back to the matter at hand, after Tosyn's death, and everything that has happened in the last couple of days, I have finally realised that holding myself back from 1.feeling,2. loving unconditionally, and unashamedly,3. expressing myself in all ways possible, 4.giving of myself, 5, Sharing my talent with the world, etc , will not stop people from dying, instead, I would have successfully hampered/hindered myself from reaching my best potential.

So thank you Tosyn Bucknor, for showing the world (me especially), how to live. Thank you for not being afraid to live. I will get up and start living life, for real now.

Whilst I am saddened by your death, I am glad that I got to learn from you. Thank you for teaching me. Thank you.

Rest on Tosyn,

Love and Light,

Lade

Prenuptial Agreements, Yay or Nay?

In the last few weeks, we've heard a lot about celebrity divorces and prenuptial agreements, from Janet Jackson(JJ) and her Qatari husband to Mel B and her estranged film producer husband. Almost every blog and entertainment news talked about the $500m Janet Jackson would be walking away with. Some people even went as far as saying she purposely tolerated the marriage, so it can last 5 years in order for her to benefit from the prenup.
We also heard about Mel's husband not getting half of her fortunes because they also signed a prenup before getting married.

I thought about all these things in passing because really my thought process had classified all these (divorces, prenups etc) as an oyinbo thing, until I overheard some ladies discussing the JJ palava. Oh the things I heard!!!!! My jaws literally dropped!!!!! Naija ladies wanting to sign prenups before they get married???? Like Really????

This got me wondering..........

  • When did we become this calculating?
  • When did we start marrying just for stuff we will get out of the marriage, and not intending to give anything to the marriage?
  • Why will we go into a marriage expecting the marriage to fail (cos that's how I see a prenup)?
  • When did Nigerians start thinking about prenuptial agreements as a way to cash out of marriage?
  • What happened to our previous mindsets of seeing get marriage as for better for worse? ( Now, don't get me wrong here o, as much as I believe that marriage should be for better/worse, I am not an advocate of some things in marriage, i.e domestic violence.......... so if you are in an abusive marriage, please leave. However, I don't believe in jinxing your marriage before it even starts by signing a prenup)

I am a romantic to the bone (blushes and covers face), and when I love someone, I loveee so fiercely, so I honestly don't understand the concept of prenups at all. This got me thinking a lot, and I kept wondering if the world as we live in today hasn't corrupted most people's minds to see love and marriage in a certain way.... I was still in this phase when #BAAD2017 happened............... **drumrolls**  *shakes waist* *puppy eyes* *dances* *sighsagain*
All in a good way this time.

For those that don't know, #BAAD2017 was coined to celebrate the joining of two of Nigeria's most celebrated artistes; Banky W and Adesua Etomi.  Their story gave me renewed hope.......... in love, in the youths, in Nigeria, about relationships etc.

With their story, I was renewed in spirit again, now I can keep working on myself while waiting for Love.......

Back to the main story, what's your take on prenuptial agreements?
Do you think it's necessary or irrelevant to a marriage?
Would you sign one?
If your spouse requested for it, what would you do?

I would love to hear from you.

Peace and Love,
Lade

3 things studying for exam taught me

I'll start reading tomorrow, I promise....... Then tomorrow will come, and I'll repeat the same phrase again, just to ease my mind. What I didn't realise was this: not only was I was putting myself under extreme pressure, I was also setting myself up for a panic attack.

Naturally I love to read, I can read anything I lay my eyes on, but let me have exams to write, and I practically have to force myself to read (I'm hoping that this doesn't happen to only me..............).
So in the last 2 months, I had exams to study for (you'll know this if you are close to me)........... now this exam is a very difficult  and tasking one, so I knew that I had to prepare really hard, however,  the spirit of laziness in me decided to rear its head, and I kept proscatinating, I didn't start serious reading until about 6 weeks to the exam: ..........I can imagine what you are thinking yeah?

This was an exam that I needed at least 4 months of preparation for, me ke? as a super woman that I am now, I felt I could read up in 8 weeks and still dust the exams. But you know one thing about proscatination........ Once you start, you can't seem to stop. So my proscatination continued until my exam was 6 weeks away, . I woke up one morning, was reading through my mails, and I saw my exam ticket, Bam!!!!!! reality dawned..............  First thing that happened to me was a panic attack, a very serious one. Having panic attacks is a big deal for me, because I hardly ever get worried (ok maybe I do, I just cover it up well, but I still don't have panic attacks.)

After the first panic attack came the calm period where I became a planner. I started planning my study time amidst all my other engagements (note that it was a very hectic period at work, plus I had other things I had committed myself to). At the planning phase, all I wanted to do was cancel all my commitments............ and this affected my relationships/friendships a little bit *****covers face*****). At this stage I was very serious and I had a very short fuse for rubbish/time-wasting activities. I was taking out my frustrations out on other people....... friends and colleagues that bore the brunt of my frustrations, let me use this media to apologise to you all.......

Stage 3 came upon me soon enough, This stage was the worst of all. It was the stage of near-depression and almost full blown panic attack. At this stage I had less than 3 weeks to the exam and I was not even halfway through with my books. Meanwhile, all the study companions I had were already solving questions and practising with mock exams, and I wasn't even done reading. At this point, I was at the "Mo ku, Mo gbe Mo daran, owo ti jo na stage" that is, I am finished, my money is wasted !!!!!

Yet I couldn't tell people how I felt. I only told a few people who tried to console me, but I was inconsolable. Mumsy would call and pray for me everyday, At this stage, my faith tripled, you know when you haven't really prepared for an exam, and someone prays for you, and you claim the prayer with a forceful Amen.....that was me at this stage.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. This was when I remembered that I needed to fast also.............

Did I also tell you that I started getting all sorts of advise at this point. From 'stop reading, just start practising questions (I'm like, how do I solve questions when I don't know anything), to try to get summaries of all courses and read them (na beans? with just 3 weeks to go?). I got all sorts of suggestions, some  scared me, some gingered me, some got me upset, some had me laughing...........

Needless to say, those weeks were the most terrifying weeks of 2016!!! what am I saying? Those weeks were arguably the most terrifying weeks of my life!!!!!!! In all, I learnt that no matter how genius you think (or know) you are, if you don't plan and prepare, you are setting yourself up for major failure.....

P.S: The exams went well, but I'm still praying for awesome results.  You can assist me with prayers too..........

I hope you enjoyed this, please share with friends and family also.

Thanks.

Till next time,

Lade.........

Losing Dear Friends

Have you ever lost someone who used to be very close to you? Someone whom you think you couldn't live without? Now when I say lose, I don't mean losing the person to death, I mean losing the person to other forces such as ego, anger, childishness/immaturity, etc

This happened to me a while back, I had this friend I was very cool with. Very cool o. She was one of the very few friends that I used to hangout with. You know you have friends that you don't talk to everyday, but on days you do, you flow like there was never a break in communication between you. She was that kind of friend. Losing such friends hurt especially when you don't know what really went wrong.....

She was one of those in whom you could relay your deepest fears, She was one of those you could be goofy with, but hey .......... life happened.

Till this day, I still wonder what went wrong.............

Maybe I didn't reach out as I should have (I know, I'm terrible at following up with friends, my good friends know that and take me as I am *covers face*)

Maybe I shouldn't have ignored the warning signs......

Maybe I was just being heady...........

Maybe, just maybe..........................................the friendship wasn't meant to be.

I keep thinking about this, but I have no answers yet. Maybe someday, the answers will come, but in the meantime, I'll just focus on being me, developing myself, being more caring, less impatient and enjoying life to the fullest..

So tell me, have you lost a friend before (not to death o)?
What happened?
How did you cope?
I'd love to hear from you.
Till next time...
Peace and love

Mr Know It All

I know a loquacious big man

As loud as Mars

Who has a need to be heard whatever it takes

He always has something to say in every conversation

And likes to be the champion..................................

He has a story for everyone, be it false or true

He likes to be in peoples' faces, and I'm sure we all agree

That even though we laugh with him, we have a name for him

The one who likes to talk is known as Mr Know It All.................................

We all have that friend or colleague who fits the above description perfectly. They want to contribute to every conversation, and are not good at listening. They always have a story to tell.

They just love being the center of attraction. In fact they get upset if they make suggestions, and their suggestions are ignored ( who suggestion don epp?)

They like to tell big stories about every situation,,and seems to know everybody (they also know some fictitious people). I know about this because I know a Mr-Know-It-All *****drum roll***

Yes I do............. and I must say he can be very annoying. He has a need to talk, that at times I think he likes to hear his voice ( If you've met a know-it-all before, you'll understand me). I absolutely dread going to meetings with him in attendance, because a 15 minute meeting will end up being 1 hour.

The only saving grace is that he's practically one of the nicest persons I've met in my whole life. the only but is his "Know-it-all" attitude.

P.S: If you do not know anyone, it means that YOU are the Know-It-All (mischievous grins)

So tell me, do you know any Mr or Miss Know-it-all?

How do you cope with them?

Your comments and suggestions are welcome.

Till my next post.

Peace and Love

There was a country!!!

Once upon a time, they said that one dollar was equal to one naira ( I think I heard that $2=N1 at some point...... well, maybe before I was born)
Once upon a time, they said that you could easily and comfortably take a train from Ojuelegba to Ibadan.
Once upon a time, they said visa wasn't needed to travel to the UK.
There was a country!!!!!

Once upon a time, we were the giant of Africa (supposedly.........).
Once upon a time, 24/7 electricity was the norm, and not a luxury.
Once upon a time, university graduates didn't struggle to get jobs.
Once upon a time, buying fuel was as simple as A,B,C.......
There was a country!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once upon a time, we had leaders who cared about the citizens (or at least they pretended to care.........)
Once upon a time, we had journalists with scruples, that would post, and publish only the truth.
Once upon a time, we cared for one another as friends, neighbours and fellow humans.
Once upon a time...................................
Oh There was a country!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where did we go wrong?
When did we lose all our values?
How did we lose our values?
When did we lose our sense of compassion?
When did we become the vulture that we are now?
How I wish we could go back to these old times!!!!!!
My dear country Nigeria, How I wish, we could restore all the lost hopes and values.

Oh How I wish, we could go back to the "Once upon a times!!!!!!!!!!!

Afterthoughts

Have you ever reflected on the happenings in your day, and thought of turning back time, so you could change a particular moment, situation, conversation or behaviour?

I know this happens to me almost all the time, as I sometimes don't know when to keep quiet. I review my day, and think of a certain event that occurred, and I end up chastising myself, like: "Lola why didn't you reply Mr X in this way" or "babes you shouldn't have reacted the way you did, when Bee said what she said"

I end up feeling really bad about some of my actions, and then decide to not react to those things again. Now I'm an 'all or nothing' kind of girl. It's either I go all out, or I don't go at all. Once I decide not to say act in a particular way again, I try 200% not to. Infact, I move away from anyone/ anything that seems like temptation to me. Let me give an instance where I was once trying to have a discussion with my colleague and friend, so I pulled him away from the crowd, and the guy said: "Kilo de t'on se fa mi? Se o fe naa mi ni?" In English, this means: Why are you pulling my hands, do you want to beat me ni? I was soooo dumbfounded, that I just quietly told him what I wanted to tell him, turned my back on him...................................Like I literally turned my back on him, the guy didn't know what hit him. He just realised that I stopped being friendly, and trust the extremist in me, I decided to milk the situation for all it was worth (mischievous grin).

So after my daily reviews, I almost always identify areas where I need to improve on,(my sharp mouth especially..... if you are close to me you'll know this) and I tell myself that I will improve, honestly I do, but.................................................... Gosh, it can be quite difficult, especially if you are like me, and your mouth is your major weapon.

I can honestly say that this daily reviews have helped especially because I don't like feeling foolish or guilty for acting in a particular way, and because it helps me avoid such awkward situations in future, though it sometimes feels like I have an affinity for awkward situations.

So tell me, have you ever felt like turning back the hands of time? Does this happen often, or as one-off situations?

Let me hear from you.

Love

My sub-conscious mind: Good or Bad?

Have you ever watched a movie or read a novel, and your subconscious mind twists the plot later on?
It happens to me practically all the time especially because I have an over-active imagination.. My subconscious mind practically puts me in the movie/ novel, and I change the plot to suit myself............ all in my sub consciousness.

Since I know that I have this particular characteristic, I tend not to read nor watch certain types of novels/movies. I absolutely DO NOT watch horror movies, neither do I read thrillers or hard core fiction.
It so happened that I was ill a few days back, and I had to stay off work for a couple of days. Now I am a very hyper-active person, so if I find myself stuck without work, I get bored............ almost to death. So here I am, weak, just recovering, and bored. To cure my boredom, I decided to watch a movie................................................................................................................... Now I don't watch movies unless I am absolutely jobless or bored, the way I was on this particular day, so I set out in search of an interesting movie to watch. After a few minutes,I came across the Harry Potter Series on my brother's laptop, so I decided against my better judgement to watch all the movies, from HP and the Philosopher's stone, to HP and the deathly hallows. Fantastic you'd say? NO!!!! It happened to be one of the greatest mistakes I'll make this year.

The movie was absolutely fantabulous if I say so myself. I recognised almost everyone from the book and I must say that my imagination of how quidditch should be played, was spot on, although a bit to the extreme( I know, my imagination works overtime).
I'm sure you'll be asking yourselves what the issues I had with the movie was? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

It was veryyyy interesting, until the flashes gave me a headache the size of China, and I became an older version of Hermione in my dreams ( I had to be Hermione, cos I'm smart like that *tongue out*). So I slept after watching HP 1 and 2, and all of a sudden, I became Hermione and I was on an adventure with Harry and Ron. I had such a restless sleep that I woke up worse off than before I slept.
Here I am, just recovering from malaria, and I was trying to uncover the secrets behind the Philosopher's stone with Harry and Ron.................... Needless to say, I felt battered and bruised when I woke up, especially after I fought off 'You Know Who' in one episode. (laughs)

Alright, enough of my ramblings. Let me know, does this happen to you also, or am I a weirdo? Am I the only one whose subconscious mind twists a plot to suit her?
Your comments and feedback are welcome!!!!

My Vacay Experience

Hello Everyone,
I've been away from writing for almost a year now, but I had an experience that I had to share with you all, so here I am, back to what I love to do (despite my laziness, I admit, I am a lazy wanna-be writer) smiles.........

So a few months back, I finally decided to go on a much needed vacation; I mean I'd been working for almost 3 years, non-stop without going on vacation....( for my mind I be workaholic na, even though I know I didn't go on vac all this while cos I had exams............).

So after a lot of discussions and planning, I was allowed to go on leave (jumps up in the air, and opens teeth). I had planned to travel when I finally have my leave approved, but I didn't want to go alone, so I had another dilemma....... whom to go with? Fortunately, my FADD fitfam, sis and friend (Tayo Lekan-Agbaje) was going to Dubai, so I decided to tag along.

Being a first-time traveller, I decided to leave the handling to her, I already had my passport, so I just sent her d front page, and God bless her, she did all the booking; ticket, hotel, visa etc.
Did I mention that I had doubts about going? I almost didn't want to go, so I decided to do something; tell 3 people whose opinion I value a lot, and get their answers. If their answer is no, then I'll convince myself not to go. Fortunately for me, and unfortunately for my pocket, everyone of them felt I more than deserved the vacation........Dubai here I come baby *shining teeth*
Tayo and I had planned to leave on Monday, so we were to meet at the airport early enough, way before our flight time cos of all the checks to be done ( we travelled during the Ebola scare period), and cos of Monday traffic in Lagos, but this particular Monday, it was as if everything was in our favour, as there was practically no traffic, and we got to the airport on time.

At the airport was where my education began.........  I mean, I'm a graduate of OAU, and a Chartered Accountant, but I didn't know a lot about the ways and minds of people ( and for my mind before, I be human psychologist.......for my mind......)

I'd always heard and talked about how corrupt Nigerians are, how unscrupulous some people are, how our government officials just take all the money once they get into office, and so on........ What I'd never really talked about nor thought about was how corrupt and unscrupulous we are. You ask me, who are the 'we' I'm talking about? My answer is we, that is, you, me, the common amn on the street, the receptionist at the office, the office assistant, the immigration officers that will stamp your passport at the airport, the airline officials that will give you your boarding pass, the custom officials, those that will check-in your luggage, those that will scan and so many others I can't remember.

Let me start from the check-in counter; Did I tell you we flew by Emirates? Yes we did!!! When we got to the check-in counter ,Tayo said we should get an exit door seat( I hope I got the name right sha? I be JJC on top this matter ooooo), so Tee met with an Emirates officer, who took us to meet his colleagues. After a little discussion, we got the seat.............. at a price of 2k, I'm sure you've guessed already.

Next, we went through the immigration, where we were supposed to submit the Ebola forms we filled, and for them to check our passport. At this point, Tayo had already told me not to act like a JJC( that is, a first time traveller, but, as much as I tried, my passport still gave me away, as it had never been stamped, lol. Anyway, my JJC self couldn't even pull the "I'm a regular flier look" as I still had the this is my first time look, it got to the point where we ( Tayo and I) had to start explaining why I had never travelled, and to explain things better, Tayo told them that I worked for an oil and gas firm, that I had never travelled before, because I haven't felt like. I even had to show them my ID card, which led to the officials asking for money for BF, I sha had to part with 1k so I could collect my passport, and move to the next phase of stamping and extortion.

We were begged and hounded for money at every check point in the airport, that it got me wondering if the airport officials don't get paid their salaries, if the salary they are paid cannot sustain them, or if they are just used to begging and exhorting travellers.
After all the hassle we went through at the various checkpoints at the airport, it was a relief to finally board the plane for our flight. A few hours later, we arrived in Dubai, and oh my, was I impressed or what?

I was dumbfounded when I saw their structures, the efficiency of their airport staff and their immigration officers, their neatness in their white kaftans, that I naively thought I was in mini-heaven (ask me how I know what heaven looks like).
I was soon dispelled of this notion, as I realised that corruption is almost everywhere in the world. Let me explain what I mean; In Dubai, it is not an offence to inflate the price of a good to a tourist, I mean, you can sell an item that normally goes for 50AED to a naive tourist for 300AED, and nobody will query you or punish you for that.

As if that is not enough, if you realise that you've been duped, and you return to the shop where you were duped, everyone around you will automatically switch to Arabic, that is, they'll act like they don't understand English at all.............. Please don't act surprised!!!!!! I think that's what makes us human
.
Another way you can be duped in Dubai is to take a taxi( which is often the best bet if you don't know your way around), but you have to be sharp. The starting rate for any taxi is 3AED, so whenever you take a taxi, you have to be sure that it's meter is set at 3AED, otherwise, OYO is your case, lol........
You should also try to have an idea of the average price you'll pay to go to certain destinations, because if you don't know, you stand a chance of being duped( Ha Ha ha, I got you there, didn't I? ). Most taxi drivers will take the longest route to a place, so they can get paid more, well......... I told you it's legal to extort people in Dubai, so.......(shrugs).

If you know your way around though, you can take the Metro to reduce your chances of being duped. Remember, I said that you have to know your way around, because if you don't, you'll probably get lost, like we almost did........ laughing sooo hard now that I remember the event, but it wasn't funny then. We had this big box (Tayo always insists that we carry a box, so we can dump all our purchases into it to avoid losing anything). On this day though, the box was more of a burden, than a saviour *grins widely*
Let's get back to the matter......

This trip made me realise that corruption exists everywhere in the world, only that the degree of corruption varies across each country/ continent.
In all, it was a very enjoyable trip,( if you don't look at all the little hitches), it was also a kind of fit trip, as we worked out everyday (what do you expect, when you travel with a FADD like Tayo?).......
I really enjoyed myself, and look forward to more trip/ eye openers like this.

It's time for me to put my pen down, till another time.

Hugs and Kisses,

Till the next time.

Zanzibar-Ideal vacation place

Thinking of taking a break? Do you want to go some place where you can rest, relax without interruption? A place with an atmosphere so serene that it's almost unbelievable, and also gives you an opportunity to mediatate, and come back from the experience absolutely refreshed and energized. Behold, Ideal vacation place- No 1....................................................ZANZIBAR!!!!!!!!! Zanzibar is an Island located in the Indian Ocean about 25 miles from the Tanzanian coast. Its local name is Unguja, and it is 60 miles long and 20 miles wide. It occupies a total area of approximately 650 square miles. Zanzibar is characterised by beautiful sandy beaches with fringing coral reefs. There are no large wild animals in Zanzibar, and forest areas such as Jozani are inhabited by monkeys, bush-pigs and small antelopes. Civets - and rumour has it, the elusive Zanzibar leopard! Various species of mongoose can also be found on the island. There is a wide variety of birdlife, and a large number of butterflies in rural areas. The coral reefs that surround the East Coast are rich in marine diversity, and make Zanzibar an ideal location for snorkelling and scuba diving. Zanzibar is an island state within the United Republic of Tanzania, and has its own semi-autonomous government made up of a Revolutionary Council and House of Representatives. Zanzibar's most famous event is the Zanzibar International Film Festival, also known as the Festival of the Dhow Countries. Every July, this event showcases the best of the Swahili Coast arts scene, including Zanzibar's favourite music, Taarab. The most attractive things about Zanzibar are its Paradise beaches and its beach resorts; Zanzibar's brilliant white beaches lapped by the warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean provide the perfect place to relax, soak up the sun and take a break from some busy sightseeing. The beaches in Zanzibar are a paradise, interspersed with picturesque fishing villages, where the people live a simple way of life, unchanged over the years. There are more than 25 fantastic beaches in Zanzibar, and some are so peaceful and remote that the only noise breaking the silence is likely to be the ocean. At the northern tip of the island is Nungwi, approached by a road lined by banana palms, mangroves and coconut trees. This is the dhow building capital of Zanzibar island, so it is a good place to see traditional craftsmen at work. On the west coast of Zanzibar, Mangapwani beach is worth a visit, and to the east are the beaches of Matemwe, Pwani Mchangani, Kiwengwa, Uroa, Bwejuu and Jambiani, all with stretches of beautiful white sands. Zanzibar also boasts several small offshore islands which are ideal for a day-trip. Prison (or Changu) island is the most popular with tourists because it is only a short trip from Stone Town. Originally, it was used by Arabs to detain recalcitrant slaves, and then a jail was built by the British, but it was never actually used. Visitors to Zanzibar will notice a large population of ancient Aldabra tortoises. Other islets near to Stone Town are Chapwani, Chumbe and Bawe. Other important tourist centres in Zanzibar include: Stone Town This tour takes you through fabled Stone Town, where history appears to stand still. With visits to the House of Wonders, the Palace Museum (People's Palace), Dr Livingstone's House and the Arab Fort amongst others, it is a fascinating look at the essence of Zanzibar. You will see Zanzibar's bustling market, winding alleyways, ornately carved and studded doors, two cathedrals and countless mosques! A trip to the site of Sultan Barghash's harem at Marahubi should also be included and rounds off an insight into Zanzibar's huge history and vibrant culture. Stone Town has some excellent gifts shops with plenty of souvenirs and handicrafts to choose from. Spice Plantations The history of Zanzibar would be incomplete without the cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper and many other spices which brought the Sultans of Oman and the beginnings of the infamous slave trade. They can be seen in the plantations just outside Zanzibar town, and a good tour includes opportunities to dazzle the senses with fresh spices. A detailed description is given about a variety of spices, and their uses in cooking and cosmetics. Visitors will be fascinated by the sheer number of spices produced and their incredible value for many ailments. This is also the cheapest place to purchase spices and spice oils. Jozani Forest The Jozani Natural Forest Reserve is located in the central east region of Zanzibar island and is home to the rare Red Colobus Monkey (pictured opposite), which is endemic to Zanzibar. These monkeys are full of character, and roam freely. They can also be seen at very close quarters just outside the reserve's perimeter and are incredibly photogenic. Jozani is home to other species including Syke's monkey's, small buck and bushpigs. The elusive Zanzibar leopard (last sited several years ago) is said to feed here at night - perhaps this is why the reserve is only open during the day?! Jozani has an excellent nature trail and the guides are well trained and informative. North Coast Tours to the unspoilt north coast always end up at Ras Nungwi, a sleepy fishing village on the northern tip of Zanzibar island. It is the dhow building capital of Zanzibar, so you will be able to see the traditional methods of dhow construction in action. This area of Zanzibar has some fantastic beaches and nearby coral reefs which are ideal for diving and snorkelling. The local villagers have built a turtle sanctuary where injured turtles and other marine animals are nursed back to health before being released back into the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Kizimkazi Mosque & Dolphin Tour Situated on the southern point of the island, Kizimkazi fishing village is home to several schools of bottle-nosed dolphins which can often be sighted following a short boat trip from the village. If you are lucky, you may be able to swim quite close to the dolphins which can be a very rewarding experience. Kizimkazi is also the site of a 12th century mosque, the earliest evidence of Islam in East Africa, and is thus worth a visit for both natural and cultural reasons. Prison Island Once the site of a gaol for misbehaving slaves, the island lies just off the old stone town. It is fringed with a beautiful coral reef, ideal for snorkelling, and has a lovely white beach for sun-bathing. It is also home to a family of giant tortoises, imported from the Seychelles in the late 19th century. This island is ideal for a day-trip with refreshments available throughout the day. It also has a small restaurant where you can enjoy freshly caught fish. So if you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and think you need to get away for a while.... Pack up, take a short trip to Zanzibar, and come back home feeling refreshed, energized and with a new take on things. Much Love, Lade Adebayo.

It's a New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy New Year Everyone!!!!! Hurray, 2013 has come and gone. 2013 was an awesome year for me, I hope it was for you too? I achieved so many thing I set out to in 2013, and I didn't for some things. One of the things I planned on doing in 2013 was to write, write and write. I promised to keep updating my blog, and to always write, but different things kept me from writing(excuses and lots of procrastination being part of it). It's 2014 though and I decided to kick myself hard, to awaken my latent writing spirit, so here I am.......... though it took me 11 days to decide on what I want to write about on my blog. I'm a dreamer and a doer, and I love to visit places (in my dreams.......), so I've decided to write about the places I've dreamt of visiting, and will hopefully visit one day. So, sit back, relax, let me take you around the world, educate you and hopefully entertain you also...................... Lots of Love, Lade Adebayo

Possibilities Everywhere

Instead of placing judgments on where you find yourself, consider the positive possibilities. Instead of extending assumptions out from your limitations, imagine your most treasured dreams extending out from your current situation.
If you feel stuck where you are, you're mistaken. Anything is possible, when you engage the power of your imagination.

Atoke's letter to Banky W

Hello peeps,
I've been under the radar lately (out of the radar to be perfectly honest), and I'm very sorry about that. I really am. I know I promised to write more often, but I haven't kept to my promise (mainly due to laziness).

Ok! Enough of the deviation. I was browsing through some blogs today, and I stumbled upon a piece that made laugh real hard. I mean I haven't laughed this much in a while. It's a piece written by Atoke of Bella Naija, and it's titled: " Banky W, Would you be my lover, yes/no"? I must say, I really enjoyed the article after getting over the initial shock of someone tripping for my only crush in the Nigerian music industry......*covers face, now i've finally spilled the beans*
I'm a full time Banky W fan, I mean he can do no wrong in my opinion(laughs). I so much rep his music, well........... apart from Ebutte Metta, I practically know and love all his songs, well I think I did until I read Atoke's article. Ok let's go back to the article.

This article is in the format of a letter starting with Dear Banky W. In this write-up/letter, Atoke lists 10 convincing reasons(at least she thinks it's convincing) why Banky W should say yes to her. I'll list the reasons I like below:

Failure doesn't define an individual

I was listening to one of my favourite songs of all times on the radio  this morning "Try Again by Aaliyah (Guess you didn't know that abi?), and this got me thinking about a topic most people despair and despise........ Failure.

Failure according to Merriam Webster dictionary is defined as  "An omission of occurrence or performance" , "A state of inability to perform a normal function", "A lack of success" and finally "Falling short".

These definitions are summarised versions of what people actually think about failure.

A New Dawn!!!!!!!

Hello Everyone,
I'm back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so sorry I haven't been regular with my posts, I've been MIA. I promise to turn a new leaf henceforth. I've had to sit back these past few weeks to reflect on what I really want my blog to be known for(what I really want to be known for)

As much as a part of me wants my blog to be popular for posting gists only, another part of me wants to be known as a motivational blogger ( a pro, if you know what i mean). I want to educate people, motivate Nigeria, and impact lives through my blog.

Based on these thoughts, I have made the following decisions:

An Olympic Lesson in Motivation

The saying goes: The expert in anything was once a beginner in everything. Truer words were never spoken.

But this isn't what we see. This isn't what we feel when we watch these Olympians. It isn't what we think when we watch any expert or great success.

We see the finished product, shining brightly in designer packaging. We see triumph and achievement, not training. We see the riches, not the rags.

And this, as much as anything else, is why motivation - that inner drive that carries us toward all we desire - continues to escape us.

Today that comes to an end. Today I will open your eyes to a new way of viewing the changes you wish to carry out and the challenges that are attempting to stop you.

The Olympians we admire might possess unique physical talent and natural gifts, but that inner fire that compels them forward is within us all. It's time to set it free.

Be Positively Responsible

Even when you’re in a negative place, the next step you take can be in a positive direction. Even when you’re feeling down, with your thoughts and actions you can lift yourself up.
Disappointment and frustration are facts of life that you’ll often encounter. But that doesn’t mean you have to perpetuate them.

When you stumble and fall, it hurts. Yet no matter how much the setback has hurt you, your best choice is always to quickly get back up and get going again.
Instead of fighting back with more of your own negativity, advance forward with your own meaningful, positive intentions.

When life has been tough and painful, grab the opportunity to make it richer and more fulfilling.
Feeling resentful and sorry for yourself will just end up giving you even more reasons to feel sorry and resentful. Choose instead to feel positively and enthusiastically responsible for pushing yourself beyond the difficulties.

Every moment is an opportunity for growth and advancement, no matter what has happened in the moments before. Seize each opportunity, and quickly leave life’s disappointments behind.

Our thoughts shape Our Actions

This is the day your dream comes to life. Because this is the day when you can take a positive, intentional step toward it.
Today, you have the power to think and act and live as you choose. Choose to focus your thoughts on the positive possibilities and to live with real meaning and fulfillment.
It is only a convenient illusion that life seems to happen to you. In fact, the life that matters is the life that happens from you and through you.
Live this day from the perspective of authentic purpose, and nothing can keep you down. Use the grand opportunity of this moment to more fully be the beautiful, unique person you truly are.
You are alive and aware and filled with a vision of how life can be when it is at its best. Feel the rightness of your purpose and live it with everything you have.
Today, life’s abundance and limitless possibilities stretch out in every direction. Today, you can make it all into something magnificent and uniquely you.

REASON IS NOT EVERYTHING

Make good and effective use of reason, but don't let it be the only thing that informs you. Some of the most beautiful and valuable aspects of life have little basis in reason.
Love does not adhere to reason, and yet it is real.People regularly act on faith, wholly apart from reason, and create value in doing so. You know much more than you can prove. Let your amazing ability to reason move you forward, but don't let it put limits on how far you can go.
Pay attention to the reasons, and pay attention also to how you feel. You are more than a set of logically determined options. Even when every reason argues against it, HOPE is never lost. For the power of hope, power of authentic desires and power of dreams cannot be limited by reason.
There is a reason for everything and yet reason is not everything. Go joyfully forward, now and always, whether there is a reason to or not.

IT'S IN EVERYONE

"I can't do that, I'm not that good", "I can't achieve anything, I'm not that persistent", "I can't pass the exam, I'm not that intelligent", "I can't win the competition, I'm not that beautiful", I can't, I can't, I can't... the list is endless.
Most times, we don't believe in the power invested in us, we don't believe in our abilities/ capabilities, we end up saying "Who am I to be this beautiful, intelligent, etc?" Actually, who are you not to be? You are a unique being created by the ALMIGHTY. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, you are different from the next person. God has created you with many unique features among which are: YOUR BRAIN, YOUR MIND. In fact you are so unique that you don't share the same finger print with any other person. You need to appreciate and understand and your uniqueness and utilize your abilities effectively. You are a flexible being, embrace change, Do the impossible, Fear nothing, Leave your comfort zone, have a CANDO attitude, and above all BELIEVE IN YOURSELF and NEVER DOUBT YOUR CAPABILITIES. I leave you with this poem...
                                           OUR DEEPEST FEAR
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that frightens us.
We ask our selves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually.who are you not to be? You are a child of GOD.
Your playing small, does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine. as children do. We were meant to make manifest, the glory of GOD within us.
It's not just in some of us, It's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
